Answer by AutoToys Staff A: If you have no Onstar, you actually need http://www.autotoys.com/x/product.php?productid=480 or your truck. It will keep the power on, it is called RAP (retained accessory power) for 10 mins after you shut off the truck or until you open the drivers door. Once you open the driver's door, it will shut off the radio.

This unit is designed to be used with vehicles that have a factory amplified system including the BOSE audio system. Besides retaining the onstar system, the unit also retains ALL THE WARNING CHIMES thyat will be lost when the factory radio is removed. This unit will also provide a SWITCHED WIRE for proper wire operation.

For vehicles with BOSE digital amplifiers, the steering wheel seek buttons will control the fading of the radio. The balance control will be handled by the radio.
For vehicles with BOSE digital amplifiers, the steering wheel volume control will control the volume of the ONSTAR along with the volume of the radio. DO NOT hold down the volume button, tap control to increase/decrease volume
