iPod or USB adapter installation into Toyota: Toyota Camry 2009

Below are the general guidelines for connecting GROM-IPOD or GROM-USB interface to the Toyota car stereo. This particular car is Toyota Camry 2009. Our posted car stereo removal instructions help with aftermarket adaptor install projects, iPod, XM, USB, Sirius, MP3, Bluetooth, video or audio when you need to reach to the back of the Toyota stereo for the installation.

1. Turn off the car ignition.

2. Locate the glove box, open it. You will see the screws that connect glove box cover to its compartment.
3. Take the Phillips screwdriver, unscrew 4 screws (3 on top and 1 at the left side underneath the glovebox).



4. Place screws in the secure place and be careful not to loose them.
5. Slightly pull out the right lower corner of the plastic cover underneath the glovebox, find the last hex screw (10mm)

6. Unscrew that screw with the 10 mm wrench
7. Carefully remove the glove box



8. Take the TOY cable. Locate the end that goes to the car stereo as shown. Make sure the flat side is up !

9. Lead the TOY cable through the hole in the dashboard. Connect the TOY harness to the stereo. You will need to find the right socket by feeling, please refer to the picture below. The socket that you need is the second from the right at the back of the stereo.
10. Note: If the socket is occupied, please disconnect the existing harness and connect the TOY cable. Reconnect the disconnected harness back to the stereo using female end of the Y-shaped TOY harness.*

11. Connect the GROM-USB or iPod adapter to the other end of the TOY harness; test the functionality of the adapter before assembling back the glovebox. You can try it with USB stick provided in your package. Please don't forget to place your favorite tunes on the USB stick and create directories as explained in the Manual.

12. Turn on ignition, then stereo and press "Disk / AUX". Stereo will recognize GROM adapter immediately (you may need to press 2 times when built in CD is active)
13. You should see Disk 1 Track 1 on the stereo screen. If you don't see anything - please refer to the troubleshooting section of your manual.

14. If everything is working as it should, disconnect the GROM box from the TOY harness. Carefully place the glovebox back until it snaps to its place, and lead the TOY harness through the hole inside to the glovebox.
15. Put all the screws back to the original location.
16. Connect GROM box to TOY harness and leave it inside of the glovebox. You can start using your GROM USB, iPod or AUX car adapter now!

* Note: Please make sure that everything that you unplug from the car stereo is connected back!

Car stereo removal guide and GROM adapter installation: Toyota Matrix 2008

Below are the general guidelines for connecting Grom iPod interface to the Toyota Matrix 2008 car stereo. The installation of GROM adapter requires you to pull out the car stereo in order to access the CD changer port located at the back of the car radio.

Tools needed: flat screwdriver and 10 mm wrench

1. Turn off the car ignition
2. Using screwdriver carefully detach the decorative cover.

3. Unscrew 4 10 mm bolts located at the stereo corners. Be careful not to loose them!

4. Carefully pull out the stereo in order to access 12-pin port at its back. Don't disconnect any wires, the port should be empty if you don't have navigation or XM installed.

5. Take TOY cable and connect it to this 12-pin port. If the port was occupied by other factory connector, plug this factory connector to the female end of TOY cable.
6. Connect the other end of TOY cable to the GROM box and iPod and test the functionality. If there is any problem - see troubleshooting section in your User Manual.
7. Once functionality is confirmed disconnect the TOY cable. We recommend glove box installation.
8. For glove box installation slide the TOY cable through the glove box hole (pull the glove box down before doing that) from the glove box to the back of the radio.
9. Connect the TOY cable to the 12-pin port again; connect it to the GROM box.
10. Connect the iPod cable to the GROM box and to your iPod. Make sure that the contacts are solid.
11. Pull the stereo back and secure it with 4 screws in the corners.
12. Install back the decorative panel. Start from the top and make sure that all clips are properly aligned.
13. Congratulations! Now you can use your GROM adapter with your car stereo!!
