Dension’s Gateway and Ice Link products allow the driver to play and control iPod and USB music sources through the car’s original audio system without changing any of the original components or aesthetics of the vehicle. If your vehicle uses the latest digital fibre optic technology, there is a Dension solution to give you access to your music with the minimum of disruption to your car.

The Gateway can be expanded to use both Bluetooth and Audio Visual accessories. The BTA1500 Bluetooth interface facilitates hands free telephony and music streaming and the AVRG5B1 A/V interface allows control of multiple audio and video inputs to the front and rear of the car, all from the original car controls.

Vehicle Specific Notes for BTA1500 Bluetooth module

BTA1500 is an accessory to the GW500 and enables hands free telephone operation and music streaming (A2DP) by making a Bluetooth connection with a compatible phone. Once the BTA1500 has paired with your phone, you can make and receive telephone calls using the controls on your radio or steering wheel. The sound will come through your car audio system and where there is text available in the car, the call details will be displayed. In some vehicles, you can browse the phone book on the car’s screen. Many phones are now capable of storing large quantities of music. Dension BTA features the A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) which allows the user to stream this music, via Bluetooth, into the car’s entertainment system so that it can be heard through the car speakers. The Gateway 500 will then allow the driver full control over the phone’s content from the radio, steering wheel, MMi or iDrive controls.

BMW iDRIVE – all models
Does it say ‘contact BMW’ when you press Communication on the iDrive controls?
Yes – this means no Tele-matics. BTA can be installed. PLEASE ACTIVATE TELEMATICS AT THE DEALER
No – If the display says ‘no phone connected’ and the phone screen is available the Tele- matics needs to be looped out. The module is in the rear quarter or behind the rear seats. (Loop part is FOA1TL1)
MERCEDES, Audio 20/50 and Command
Do you a have a cradle solution for a phone in the arm rest?
Yes – Tele- matics needs to be looped out. The module is in the rear quarter panel (Loop part is FOA1TL1)
No – this means no tele-matics. BTA can be installed.
PORSCHE PCM
Do you a have a SIM reader in the head unit?

It is true that Dension GW500 MOST Interface based on a MOST compliant Fibre Optical Transmitter.
But because the performance of the four specification points of the physical
layers (SP1, SP2, SP3 and SP4) is strongly affected by the GW500 MOST PCB layout, the tracking between MOST chip and the compliant Fibre Optical Transmitter, the selection and placement of certain passive components, therefore Dension got an official testing house, Ruetz Systems Solutions GMBH to carry out a Physical Layer test for the GW500 MOST hardware.
This test confirms completely the hardware compliance in a very important area of module design.

Problem:

I don’t have a text capable head unit (radio), how can I toggle between iPod UI and Gateway UI mode?

Solution:

There are two different iPod modes are available:

1. Gateway UI (Controls via head unit)
Select disc 6, track 3 and then press and hold FF button for approx. 2-3 seconds.

2. iPod UI mode: (Controls via iPod's touchwheel)
Select disc 6, track 2 and then press and hold FF button for approx. 2-3 seconds.

Solution:

The Gateway 500 supports the following audio formats:

- MP3
- MPEG1 Layer 3 : 32; 44,1; 48 kHz (32 - 320kbps)
- MPEG2 Layer 3 : 16; 22,05; 24 kHz (8 - 160kbps)
- MPEG2.5 Layer 3 : 8; 11.025; 12 kHz (8 -160 kbps) from 96 kb/s to 320 kb/s
- MP3 Variable Bit Rate (VBR) (up to 320kb/s)
- OGG (up to 320 kbit/s)
- WMA 4 - 44.1 kHz at sample rates up to 320 kb/s (except DRM protected files)
- WAV (16 bit, uncompressed PCM)

Not supported:

- WMA Pro
- WMA lossless
- WMA DRM

Problem:

Which USB devices are supported by Gateway 500?

Solution:

Gateway 500 supports all standard USB compliant mass storage class devices with FAT16 or FAT32 file system. This can be an USB flash drive, an MP3 player, a portable hard drive with USB interface, a PDA or even a digital camera.

If the MP3 player or PDA can be seen by your computer as a 'mass storage device' (ie.there is drive letter assigned to the device), you should be able to connect it to your Gateway 500 via USB and play the music files stored on it.

If the system shows the device as a 'storage device' and there is no drive letter assigned to the device that means your device use a MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) which is NOT compatible with our product.
