Dension BTA is an accessory which can be added to the Gateway 500 interface. It allows you to make and receive handsfree calls using the original controls on your car audio system.
You will hear the caller through the car’s audio speakers and can control the call using your car radio controls, steering wheel controls or iDrive.
The BTA uses cutting edge Bluetooth technology to ‘pair’ with your phone so that information can be sent between the two devices.
The following cars and head units are compatible with BTA1500:
- Porsche with PCM 1/2/2.1 head units, where ‘Phone’ button exists
- BMW 1/3/5/6/X5 up to 2007 model year
- Audi with MMI-2 Basic and MMI-2 High head units
- Mercedes (NTG1 & NTG2) with Audio 20 and Comand head units
In cases of BMW and Porsche it may be necessary to have the car programmed by your dealer in order to accept the phone module and use your BTA1500 device.

2. Useful Information
• Up to three phones can be paired with the BTA1500, one after the other. If a fourth
phone is paired, the pairing data from the last mobile phone on the list is deleted.
• If the system is playing A2DP music from the connected Bluetooth device (PDA,
laptop, mobile phone) you can still use it or another device in handsfree mode, to
answer phonecalls for example. Whilst the call is active, the music will stop. After the

call, the music will continue. Some mobile phone models will restart the song from the
beginning.
• If a phone is connected to the system as a handsfree device, the other phone can
connect only as an A2DP source. In this case, the device which is playing music can
be used as a phone but without the handsfree function. Some phones give you the
option to choose the connection type.
• If an iPhone is connected to the GW500 via the dock cable and the music is being
played from it, the iPhone can manage handsfree calls through Bluetooth. Whilst a call
is active the music will be stopped. After the call, the music will continue.

5. Basic installation
5.1 Installing the BTA1500
For best performance, mount the BTA1500 to a plastic part of the vehicle, or tie it to a
cable harness away from the car radio chassis or other electronic equipment. Avoid
installing the BTA1500 near large metal objects.
• Mercedes (NTG1 and NTG2)
- with Audio 20 head unit
- with Comand head unit
Note: The original Phone module and the BTA1500 cannot de used at the same time.
If you want to use the BTA1500 you have to disconnect the original / factory phone module.

BTA1500 is an accessory to the GW500 and enables hands free telephone operation and music streaming (A2DP) by making a Bluetooth connection with a compatible phone. Once the BTA1500 has paired with your phone, you can make and receive telephone calls using the controls on your radio or steering wheel. The sound will come through your car audio system and where there is text available in the car, the call details will be displayed. In some vehicles, you can browse the phone book on the car’s screen. Many phones are now capable of storing large quantities of music. Dension BTA features the A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) which allows the user to stream this music, via Bluetooth, into the car’s entertainment system so that it can be heard through the car speakers. The Gateway 500 will then allow the driver full control over the phone’s content from the radio, steering wheel, MMi or iDrive controls.

Yes – this means no tele-matics. BTA can be installed with no loop out issues
No – If the display changes to Green and the Pairing screen is available the Tele- matics needs to be looped out This module is under the front passenger foot carpet. (Loop part is FOA1TL1)
BMW iDRIVE – all models
Does it say ‘contact BMW’ when you press Communication on the iDrive controls?
Yes – this means no Tele-matics. BTA can be installed. PLEASE ACTIVATE TELEMATICS AT THE DEALER
No – If the display says ‘no phone connected’ and the phone screen is available the Tele- matics needs to be looped out. The module is in the rear quarter or behind the rear seats. (Loop part is FOA1TL1)
MERCEDES, Audio 20/50 and Command
Do you a have a cradle solution for a phone in the arm rest?
Yes – Tele- matics needs to be looped out. The module is in the rear quarter panel (Loop part is FOA1TL1)
No – this means no tele-matics. BTA can be installed.
PORSCHE PCM
Do you a have a SIM reader in the head unit?
Yes – Tele- matics needs to be looped out. The module is under the driver’s seat (Loop part is FOA1TL1)
No – this means no tele-matics. BTA can be installed.
Poor Microphone and Audio levels. (Static)
On all vehicles.
The following levels can be set by adding the ***14 and ###11 into the dial a number. The phone has to be paired at this point.
