Recognizing that the home office computer monitor is not the ideal display device on which to share photos, listen to music or watch movies, Thomson has a new set-top home networking receiver that easily distributes digital content from the personal computer to the high-definition television through fast wireless or wired connections. The Acoustic Research Digital MediaBridge is the first device in this burgeoning category to feature built-in WiFi capability to securely distribute high-definition images from the PC to the HDTV Set.

Since it is designed as a home entertainment device, the on-screen menus are controlled at the television by a six-device universal remote control. The receiver also provides the capabilities and functionality that computer users expect, including the ability to search music files by artist, title, album or genre; organize photos into slideshows with music accompaniment; and sort a movie library alphabetically. Since the Implict inPlayer application includes full metadata support, information, such as actor, director, producer, film synopsis, genre, and rating as well as advanced search capabilities, is also provided

Easy to hook up, the Digital MediaBridge receiver works seamlessly with an existing wireless home network - either 802.11b or 802.11g WiFi or wired Ethernet network to send content from up to three computers located in any room running the Implicit inServer application to a HDTV display or home entertainment system. Because the Digital MediaBridge performs all intensive processing, the computers can be used for other functions at the same time that content is being accessed on the TV. The Implicit inServer application suite installed on the PC guides the user through the simple set-up process.
Resembling a home theater component in its styling, the MediaBridge is also designed to fit into an existing stack of A/V equipment. For maximum reception, the WiFi antenna is conveniently located on an extended cable and can be positioned away from potential sources of interference.
The receiver is UPnP compatible to ensure connectivity with a wide range of PCs and consumer electronic devices. The receiver connects to the TV or A/V receiver using standard interfaces and incorporates high-definition YPrPB component video, DVI with HDCP and S-Video outputs, as well as digital audio coax and digital optical audio connections. The AR Digital MediaBridge supports Windows XP and Windows 2000 operating systems and will support Mac OSX in the second quarter of 2005.
