BACK TO DIY 2000 TECH SUMMARY

Introduction:
This is an autotoys.com installation. One of several hundred by the staff of autotoys.com
This article is a sample of knowledge gained by working on real cars for over 18 years.
Online for over 10 years, when you buy a product from us, we give you real support when you need it.
Instant access to answers through our customer forums. With thousands of customers, avoid delays, errors and miscalculations in your installation.. buy from autotoys.com - your outlet for car audio, car alarms and auto accessories.

Products:
If you have an interest in any of the products in this article, everything featured (electrical tape, connectors, radio, alarm, wire ties, rca cables, diodes, screws --- everything is available 'now' (FOR SALE!) through our storefront). Remember, there may be many manufacturers out there who sell similar products as the ones featured in our articles, but if you want a problem-free smooth professional install, your only guarantee is to buy the same parts we use (see our storefront). Any slight difference in any of the parts and your install is ruined (plus you won't have access to our post sale support or forums). Especially important for alarm, radio and OEM changer products.

Sales People (be careful!)::
Everyday, we get dozens of requests through our chat & ticket support system, request for forum passwords, questions on installation problems or questions. We can only focus on questions from our customers. The questions are simple.. the answers are simple - but these people, because they did not buy from AUTOTOYS.COM cannot get an answer. Dont make a mistake by buying through auctions, fly by night operations or new pop up websites who are just a voice over the phone (a sales person) with absolutely NO EXPERIENCE.

No experience installing in cars, no experience what-so-ever! They barely know the products they sell! Don't make that mistake! Make sure your purchase is from autotoys.com. These articles are proof we know what we are doing and that we WORK IN CARS! We work on the newest cars with the newest products.

Sony CDX1300 Reliant Radio Installation

This article features an installation by AUTOTOYS.COM in a 1985 Plymouth Reliant. Total cost of radio and installation parts was around $160.00.

Radio used:
Sony CDX 1300

SEE OUR CAR RADIO DEPARTMENT HERE

Dash kit used:
Best kit CF2, 6501 can also be used (see our dash kit department) - Search under 6501

SEE OUR DASH KIT HERE

Wire harness used:
1817 Chrysler (see our dash kit department > Wire harness) - Search under 1817

HARNESS HERE

Misc:
T-taps and male insulated .25 spade
(see tools department under connectors)

This is the original radio. It's about 16 years old. Radio dials, very basic. Low power. Manual knobs and slide treble controls.

Most chrysler type radios are removed in the same fashion. Remove the trim piece around the radio (in this car, 9 philips head screws), then remove the 2 10mm bolts and remove the factory radio.

Bolt our dash kit into place. DO NOT BUY any other dash kit, our kits are designed to fit! See our dash kit department at http://store.autotoys.com (we have kits for almost every type of vehicle on the road). This dash kit will adapt the large opening to a single din opening which will allow mounting of most aftermarket din size radios.

Here is our PLUG in harness plugged in and wired together. We recommend only OUR plug in Chrysler harness, see our dash kit department > wire harness at http://store.autotoys.com - Because the original plug splits the speaker wires into 2 plugs, we HIGHLY recommend a plug in harness which clearly shows which wires are which. In this installation, the Sony radio follows EIA codes and we simply had to match the wire colors together.

You will also notice the ground wire to the left. We used a t-tap on this wire, then connected a male insulated .25 spade to plug into the t-tap for the ground. See our TOOLS department at http://store.autotoys.com for these connectors.

Here is the sony radio CDX 1300 bolted into place with the trim panel. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! Very sleek looking radio with electronic controls, a big improvement over the manual controls of the old factory radio. Detachable face. Cd radio.
