BACK TO DIY 2000 TECH SUMMARY

Introduction:
This is an autotoys.com installation. One of several hundred by the staff of autotoys.com
This article is a sample of knowledge gained by working on real cars for over 18 years.
Online for over 10 years, when you buy a product from us, we give you real support when you need it.
Instant access to answers through our customer forums. With thousands of customers, avoid delays, errors and miscalculations in your installation.. buy from autotoys.com - your outlet for car audio, car alarms and auto accessories.

Products:
If you have an interest in any of the products in this article, everything featured (electrical tape, connectors, radio, alarm, wire ties, rca cables, diodes, screws --- everything is available 'now' (FOR SALE!) through our storefront). Remember, there may be many manufacturers out there who sell similar products as the ones featured in our articles, but if you want a problem-free smooth professional install, your only guarantee is to buy the same parts we use (see our storefront). Any slight difference in any of the parts and your install is ruined (plus you won't have access to our post sale support or forums). Especially important for alarm, radio and OEM changer products.

Sales People (be careful!)::
Everyday, we get dozens of requests through our chat & ticket support system, request for forum passwords, questions on installation problems or questions. We can only focus on questions from our customers. The questions are simple.. the answers are simple - but these people, because they did not buy from AUTOTOYS.COM cannot get an answer. Dont make a mistake by buying through auctions, fly by night operations or new pop up websites who are just a voice over the phone (a sales person) with absolutely NO EXPERIENCE.

No experience installing in cars, no experience what-so-ever! They barely know the products they sell! Don't make that mistake! Make sure your purchase is from autotoys.com. These articles are proof we know what we are doing and that we WORK IN CARS! We work on the newest cars with the newest products.

Accord CD changer Center

Curious on how to make that 6 disc changer fit into the center console of your 6th Generation (1998+) accord?

Well, we'll show you. The changer we used in this article is a Pioneer 6 disc. Our HONDA OEM compatible plug in changer can also be fitted using our techniques (see our OEM DEPARTMENT - shop now)

If you already bought a changer from 'another' company, where is their support?

To those who haven't purchased yet, this shows you that the tech staff at AUTOTOYS.COM has real world knowledge of the products we sell and can invent ways to overcome problems.

(we also do installation by appointment only)

The 6 disc changer fits in the center console quite nicely. Remove the bottom plate in the center console, there will be 2 screws towards the back of the radio, you can ground the changer with one of the 2 screws, use a ring terminal. We then notched the plated about 1/4 of a inch and then REPLACED it. The notch allows our CD changer wires to come through from the transmission tunnel and up to the changer.

In the second picture (shown), you will notice that the center console will NOT close because the TOP tray actually extends the arm rest down and INTO the changer. I think we can live without that top center storage area, we rather have the changer in the middle console and use the glove than have the changer in the trunk of the vehicle.

Remove the 2 philips head screws and take OFF the top tray. Shown here is the factory clips and how it looks. Remove the clip from the top tray.

We used 2 1.5 inch self tapping screws (see our tools department) and lined up the handle with the lid CLOSED. We then gently opened back up the lid and shot our screws in.

Here are the pictures of our screws mounted into the latch. Note, the secret is to tightly secure the latch onto the top lid with screws while still allowing a certain amount of FLEX (which will allow you to open the lid)

Properly mounted, our latch DOES NOT move, but it can flex. More pictures shown here.

Its that simple. It works great also. The lid is as solid if not even more sandwiched than factory and our changer fits perfectly without any problems.

We needed to mount the changer. Forget the brackets. It won't fit, or if it does, it will take a lot of work. We ran super 3M double sided tape (3 strips) along the entire width of the changer and secured it into the center console. IT IS ROCK SOLID. IT DOES NOT BUDGE!!!!

The tape is in stock and available for sale in our TOOLS department at discounted prices.

Here is the PAN shot of the Pioneer MEH P9000R AM/FM/MD which controls the changer with Organic display (nice eh?) - The 8200, 7200 and other radios which reads ORGANIC display have a similar type of display.

Like it?
