BACK TO *1999* YEAR TECH SUMMARY | BACK TO DIY 2000-2006 TECH SUMMARY

Introduction:
This is an autotoys.com installation. One of several hundred by the staff of autotoys.com
This article is a sample of knowledge gained by working on real cars for over 18 years.
Online for over 10 years, when you buy a product from us, we give you real support when you need it.
Instant access to answers through our customer forums. With thousands of customers, avoid delays, errors and miscalculations in your installation.. buy from autotoys.com - your outlet for car audio, car alarms and auto accessories.

Products:
If you have an interest in any of the products in this article, everything featured (electrical tape, connectors, radio, alarm, wire ties, rca cables, diodes, screws --- everything is available 'now' (FOR SALE!) through our storefront). Remember, there may be many manufacturers out there who sell similar products as the ones featured in our articles, but if you want a problem-free smooth professional install, your only guarantee is to buy the same parts we use (see our storefront). Any slight difference in any of the parts and your install is ruined (plus you won't have access to our post sale support or forums). Especially important for alarm, radio and OEM changer products.

Sales People (be careful!)::
Everyday, we get dozens of requests through our chat & ticket support system, request for forum passwords, questions on installation problems or questions. We can only focus on questions from our customers. The questions are simple.. the answers are simple - but these people, because they did not buy from AUTOTOYS.COM cannot get an answer. Dont make a mistake by buying through auctions, fly by night operations or new pop up websites who are just a voice over the phone (a sales person) with absolutely NO EXPERIENCE.

No experience installing in cars, no experience what-so-ever! They barely know the products they sell! Don't make that mistake! Make sure your purchase is from autotoys.com. These articles are proof we know what we are doing and that we WORK IN CARS! We work on the newest cars with the newest products.

PassatCDInstall

This page illustrates the simple installation of the 6 disc OEM changer in our 1999 Passat Wagon purchased from AUTOTOYS.COM

The changer exactly fits in the plastic panel of the Passat designed to hold it behind the driver side rear storage panel. The kit did not come with the little clamps which VW designed to hold in the changer with the screw sockets provided in the plastic. However the unit is a very close fit and a bit of foam padding is all you need to keep it snug and from vibrating.

1999 PASSAT WAGON CD CHANGER

The kit comes with standard
                     cables and brackets which are
                     unused.  Only the changer itself,
                     adapter pigtail and ground lead
                     are required.

At the right, note the ground lead
                     with its quick connect tab
connected to the side of the CD.
In this same area, the DIN plug
from the CD exits and will made
                     with the adapter cable
.

'

Our Passat had a factory cable waiting for us behind
the panel with a rectangular 12 pin plug.  This easily
mates with the adapter cable system supplied with
the CD kit.  Power off your car before plugging this
in,  The ground lead was most easily attached to a
black phillips screw at the top left of the plastic rack.
This threads into the metal chassis
.

Caution, we had to scrape the washer and screw
and add a star washer when we checked our
ground. Note, the system DID operate without
this wire, but it was easy to add the ground, and
make certain of proper power and noise control.
By the way if you drop this screw you will never
get it down in the body well!

The system operates
                                   normally, and the
                                   controls and display
                                   operate on the factory
                                   radio system as
                                   shown here. Note that
                                   the
Mix indicator
                                   shows and operates
                                   as well
.
