BACK TO *1999* YEAR TECH SUMMARY | BACK TO DIY 2000-2006 TECH SUMMARY

Introduction:
This is an autotoys.com installation. One of several hundred by the staff of autotoys.com
This article is a sample of knowledge gained by working on real cars for over 18 years.
Online for over 10 years, when you buy a product from us, we give you real support when you need it.
Instant access to answers through our customer forums. With thousands of customers, avoid delays, errors and miscalculations in your installation.. buy from autotoys.com - your outlet for car audio, car alarms and auto accessories.

Products:
If you have an interest in any of the products in this article, everything featured (electrical tape, connectors, radio, alarm, wire ties, rca cables, diodes, screws --- everything is available 'now' (FOR SALE!) through our storefront). Remember, there may be many manufacturers out there who sell similar products as the ones featured in our articles, but if you want a problem-free smooth professional install, your only guarantee is to buy the same parts we use (see our storefront). Any slight difference in any of the parts and your install is ruined (plus you won't have access to our post sale support or forums). Especially important for alarm, radio and OEM changer products.

Sales People (be careful!)::
Everyday, we get dozens of requests through our chat & ticket support system, request for forum passwords, questions on installation problems or questions. We can only focus on questions from our customers. The questions are simple.. the answers are simple - but these people, because they did not buy from AUTOTOYS.COM cannot get an answer. Dont make a mistake by buying through auctions, fly by night operations or new pop up websites who are just a voice over the phone (a sales person) with absolutely NO EXPERIENCE.

No experience installing in cars, no experience what-so-ever! They barely know the products they sell! Don't make that mistake! Make sure your purchase is from autotoys.com. These articles are proof we know what we are doing and that we WORK IN CARS! We work on the newest cars with the newest products.

MERCEDES ML CD CHANGER

Unfortunately, the 6 disc changer is no longer made by the manufacturer since this article was written. We do offer an 8 disc changer, and this can be found here (BUY IT NOW BUY IT NOW).

We were the first company to offer AFTERMARKET CD changers in the Mercedes BENZ ML, here is the original article written 8-9 years ago!

Installation of a OEM COMPATIBLE Mercedes Benz M-CLASS ML changer in a AUTOTOYS.COM STAFF VEHICLE

There is a lot of talk about the Mercedes ML changer that we offer for less than $290.00 shipped! This option is a lot less than the factory one. Most people was concerned about mounting the unit or how a 8 disc changer will work in a vehicle when the factory unit is only 6 disc.

This changer is sold in our OEM DEPARTMENT under MERCEDES ML changer. Visit our storefront, then the OEM DEPARTMENT

Well, when there is a lot of discussion on a topic, the STAFF of AUTOTOYS.COM wants some answers for our customers. This is already a proven fact by the countless amount of photographs and articles in our TECH section which is EXCLUSIVE to AUTOTOYS.COM

So, what did we do? We went out and purchased a Mercedes ML 320 - Hey, we liked the truck anyway... Our truck came in black with a BOSE system (and cd changer). This article tells you how to mount our changer in your ML vehicle, written by the INSTALLATION staff of AUTOTOYS.COM. This article complements the excellent article submitted by one of our customers. You choose your blend of coffee on how to mount it.

We also took a lot of photographs! We always have this changer in stock, and it is in stock for immediate delivery. Remember, our OEM COMPATIBLE changers are PROVEN units which we also use, proven with reliable converters and  changers made by major manufacturers, not no-name brands made overseas...and our prices include the changer, adapter and FREE SHIPPING within the 48 states (this saves you over $50.00 alone!). We only sell OEM compatible changers that we have used in our own installations, this way, we flatten all manufacturer claims, eliminate any pitfalls and know about any snags.

Factory Bracket shown. This bracket is available at your parts dealer for about $40.00

This is where the Mercedes Changer bracket bolts in. 2 10mm bolts (this swing out bracket is not included in our changer kit)

This is the prewired factory plug for the CD changer. No need to run any wires

This is where the factory changer mounts to the swing out bracket. OUR CHANGER will not bolt into these holes. It is shown only as an reference.

A picture of the factory changer mounted on the swing out bracket. Our changer will look similar once bolted into place.

Closeup of the radio playing DISC #8 (yes, thats 2 extra disc over the factory unit and it costs a lot less also). To access disc 7, press  6 then 1, to access disc 8, press 6 then button 2. Its that simple! Direct and effortless! Digital converter does the rest! (all included in our package). Even if you have a 6 disc, sell it and get the 8 to get the extra 2 disc! We took out our 6 disc MB changer and put in the 8!

Yes, it works, any questions?

Shown to the left is the adapter we provide plugged into the factory preran cable, the OTHER END plugs into the changer we provide. IT IS THAT SIMPLE. NO SPLICING. JUST PLUG IT IN!!!!!!!!

PLUG IN!

CLOSE UP SHOT

The picture to the left is a picture of our 8 disc changer. It is slightly smaller than the factory 6 disc changer. YES, that is right. Our 8 disc changer is SMALLER in size than the factory 6 disc unit. GO FIGURE.

Now, there are several ways to mount this unit.

We will give you a few ideas:

1. You can drill a small hole through the plastic panels and mount the changer horizontally or vertically OUTSIDE the cubby hole for the changer,  or run the factory cable OUTSIDE the cubby hole into the cargo area. This, way your changer can be Velcro or bolted in the cargo area and no need to buy that swing out bracket.

2. You can make your own brackets and UNSCREW the changer from inside the cubby hole. All you machine shop people out there, GO FOR IT!

3. Buy the factory swing out bracket and attach our changer to the factory swing out bracket. The question is this, how will it attach?

Well, there are several mounting holes on the side of our 8 disc changer, bolts are included. we suggest you line up the holes on one side like the factory unit and drill small holes to shoot the bolts into the 8 disc changer we provide. This will lock it in place on one side. However, there will be a small gap on the right side of the changer. You can do the same thing on the right side and then use washers or bushings to fill the 1/4 inch of space to the right shown in the picture. All of these fasteners can be easily found in any hardware store or home superstore.

The other thing we thought of was making a U shape piece to hold the changer in place from the bottom. A support on the bottom.

The third thing you can do is to make a spacer out of wood or some other material on the right to wedge the changer into place. A snug fit is a good fit.

A fourth option is for you to REBEND the factory brackets to conform to the new smaller 8 disc changer.

We think the combination of spacers will be the easiest to secure the changer on the right and drilling new holes on the left will easily secure the changer.

Remember, the ACCESS DOOR MUST BE ON THE LEFT when it swings out. This is the same on the factory unit, as a matter of fact, the factory unit has a UPSIDE DOWN eject button because of this.
